What
to expect during a massage therapy session:
In preparing to receive any type of massage, it's helpful to be
psychologically ready. Often people feel vulnerable exposing their
bodies to a stranger. They may also feel they aren't worth the
time or money they spend on a massage. Receiving a massage challenges
us to grow in our self-confidence, to accept ourselves as we are,
including the fact that we are worth every penny and every minute
of the massage experience.
I will have you fill out a short intake form during your first
visit to familiarize myself with your medical history to be sure
there are no conditions that would be adversly affected by massage.
The sessions generally run 60, 90, and 120 minutes in length.
Clients are asked to remove as much clothing as they are comfortable
with and rest on a padded massage table. To respect personal privacy
and provide adequate warmth, you will be covered or draped with
a sheet and blanket or towel so that only the part of the body
being worked on is exposed at any given time.
Whether or not you would expect to talk during a session depends
on your need at the time. Some clients need to talk. Some need
silence. I will be sensitive and accommodate what you need. However,
sometimes talking detracts from entering a state of relaxation
or experiencing the physical or nonverbal dimensions of the massage.
In any case, feel comfortable giving me feedback about your needs
and what you like or do not like during the session. Good communication
ensures optimal results from the massage session.
It is best not to have eaten just before a session. Digestion
diverts circulation to the internal organs and can draw energy
and attention away from the massage.
What to expect from Energy work:
Energy is a universal term for the vital force. In many bodywork
practices the energy or chi is freed from places of blockage.
Reiki is a modality that is based on the practice of balancing
and amplifying energy on the physical, mental, emotional, and
spiritual planes. I am a certified Reiki practitioner and I use
the intention of clear and attuned energy running from the creator
through the earth to our bodies helping to release and move energy.
What to expect during a reflexology treatment:
Reflexology is the practice of clearing toxins and improving circulation
through the manipulation of reflex points on the hands or feet
providing overall relaxation to the body in the process. The body
is mapped out on the base of the foot according to zones or meridians,
each one corresponding to an organ or system.
What to expect during a sports massage therapy session:
Sports massage is a specialty area of massage that assists the
body to achieve maximum physical results. It can help protect
against pain while boosting performance. Following physical exertion,
it helps remove lactic acid build up and restore muscle tone and
range of motion. I like to incorporate stretches for the client
to help retain healthy range of motion in all the joints preventing
injury in times of exertion.
